New drug shows promise for endometriosis

At Viera Fertility Center, we’re your Melbourne IVF resource to monitor advancements in medicine that could solve fertility obstacles and make the family of your dreams a reality.

Endometriosis afflicts as many as 15 percent of reproductive-age women in the U.S. and millions of women around the world. The disorder can lead to scarring of the ovaries, fallopian tubes and other tissues; infertility; inflammation and chronic pain. It does not always lead to infertility, but it can create obstacles in the process of getting pregnant or maintaining pregnancy.

Two new drug compounds — one of which has already proven useful in a mouse model of multiple sclerosis — appear to be effective in treating endometriosis. By focusing on overproduction of estrogen as well as inflammation, these treatments offer promise for women whose infertility is caused by endometriosis.

If you’re unsure about your own fertility and would like to talk with Dr. Chamoun and the team at Viera Fertility Center, contact our office today. Together, we’ll work toward creating the family of your dreams!
