Breast cancer drug improves fertility?

At Viera Fertility Center, we know that fertility issues are related to overall health concerns. For many cancer survivors, fertility has been a long-awaited dream and a symbol of hope and recovery! New research indicates that a particular breast cancer drug may increase fertility.

As it turns out, breast cancer patients who are given the hormone-blocking drug goserelin during chemotherapy are less likely to experience ovarian failure and more likely to have successful pregnancies, according to results from a recent study to be published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Women who received goserelin — a synthetic version of a naturally occurring gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) — during chemotherapy for breast cancer experienced an 8 percent ovarian failure rate compared to 22 percent for the control group two years after treatment.

These rates provide a tremendous source of hope for women undergoing chemotherapy, and could provide fertility preservation needed for the family of your dreams! If you have questions about fertility post-cancer, contact your Melbourne IVF resource today!
